Empower Yourself Through Neuro-linguistic Programming

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness practice. The word “dialectical” means combining opposite ideas. This type of therapy acknowledges that life is often complex and requires balancing differing viewpoints and emotional responses. The key is to be able to manage intense emotions.

Zita Chriszto is a licensed clinical psychologist in Dubai who is trained to provide DBT services. She personalizes the sessions to provide each client with the tools they need to address their specific concerns.

Everyone feels sad, scared, or anxious. If these feelings occur more frequently or intensely, you should contact Zita to see if she offers DBT as the right treatment for this situation.

Conditions Treated with Neuro-Linguistic Programming

NLP is applied to treat a wide variety of issues. Among these are mental conditions like depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder. Aside from these, NLP is used to address personal challenges and pursue work-related goals.

Procedure Details of Neuro-linguistic Programming in Dubai

The basis of NLP is changing the way a person thinks and behaves. NLP techniques are designed to help people process information to understand why they behave in certain ways. Additionally, the therapist guides the client to examine past successes and find out how they can repeat the experience.

Sessions generally begin by establishing rapport between the therapist and the client. Problems are identified and goals are set. Negative communication patterns and thinking are corrected during these conversations. Finally, the client receives a plan to integrate these behavioral changes into their daily routines.

NLP believes that everyone has their own view of reality called the preferred representational system. NLP practitioners study different perspectives to better understand a situation. By considering various viewpoints, they gain more information. They also believe that the senses are key to processing information and that the mind and body affect each other. NLP is experiential, so to truly understand something, a person must experience it themselves.

Goals of Neuro-linguistic Programming

Although each person might have their own goals, DBT focuses on emotional management. Improving control over intense emotions should ideally help individuals achieve positive changes in behaviors and well-being.

Therapeutic Techniques Used in Neuro-linguistic Programming

NLP theorizes that people have their preferred representational system (PRS). The PRS is basically a person’s view of the world. The PRS is the basis therapists use to determine the techniques used during NLP sessions.

Therapist's Role in Neuro-linguistic Programming

NLP therapists guide clients in examining their patterns of behavior, thoughts, and feelings. NLP is an empowering method of treatment. A therapist teaches clients ways they can understand and address their issues.

When to Seek Neuro-linguistic Programming in Dubai

NLP is often used with other types of treatment. Examples of these are cognitive behavioral therapy and even medication. It is helpful for people who want to receive personalized care to address issues or achieve goals.

Client's Role in Neuro-linguistic Programming

The client takes on an active role in NLP sessions. They are in charge of challenging their current practices and beliefs. NLP’s effectiveness is based on how much the client is willing to participate.

01

Benefits and Challenges of Neuro-linguistic Programming

Clients set the specific goals they want to achieve during sessions. However, the core of NLP is to influence the way people think, feel, and behave and these changes should lead to positive outcomes.

Supporters of NLP say it leads to quick, lasting results and helps people understand their thoughts and behaviors better. Some compare NLP to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but believe it brings positive changes in less time.

The issue with NLP is that it is still an emerging treatment modality. It also has a lot of variations. Its potential is not yet fully known because it is relatively less studied compared to other treatment methods.

02

Effectiveness and Research on Neuro-linguistic Programming

While research on NLP is not as extensive as other more popular forms of treatment, they do exist. One of these is a 2009 paper published in Counseling and Psychotherapy Research. According to Melita Stipancic et al., people  improved their psychological symptoms when they received NLP treatment. In addition, The 2015 research review published in Psychiatria Danubia found that NLP therapy positively impacted individuals with social or psychological problems, although the authors stated that more investigation was needed.

03

Conclusion

NLP zeroes in on the way thoughts affect behavior. It recognizes that the brain interprets signals from everything that stimulates it. These interpretations affect the person. With NLP, the role of language in these interpretations is given importance. Someone who goes through NLP learns to become an active participant in this process to achieve the desired goals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About NLP

Is NLP the same as life coaching?

NLP is similar to coaching in that it helps people achieve goals. However, NLP is concerned with changing neurological processes that people learn from their experiences, and not just in goal-setting.

The preferred representational system is a concept in NLP that is basically a person’s view of the world.  This view is influenced by sensory inputs. For example, the things a person sees, hears, or feels. The PRS can also be determined by eye movements. An NLP therapist determines the client’s PRS and uses it to map out the most effective techniques used in the sessions.

NLP is based on the model developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970s. They published their findings in the book, “The Structure of Magic: A Book about Language of Therapy”. The book laid out the foundation of the authors’ theory that language patterns are indicative of cognitive processes.

Some experts believe that NLP can benefit from more rigorous scientific study because it is not as extensively studied as other types of therapy. However, there are already studies that indicate it is effective against some mental health conditions.

Like other types of treatment, it is best to go to a therapist who is a licensed mental health professional. It is also important that the practitioner is certified to conduct NLP sessions specifically.
