Causes of Trauma Related Issues

Trauma disorders often stem from a single traumatic event or prolonged exposure to stressful situations, such as abuse, accidents, or natural disasters. Risk factors include the severity of the trauma, previous mental health challenges, and a lack of social support.

Regain Control over Trauma

Trauma disorders can profoundly impact daily life, creating emotional and physical challenges that make it difficult to move forward. These disorders arise from distressing events, leaving individuals feeling disconnected and overwhelmed by persistent reminders of the trauma. In Dubai, Zita Chriszto, a licensed clinical psychologist, offers evidence-based treatments to help both adults and children recover from trauma. With over five years of experience, Zita provides compassionate care, guiding patients toward healing and personal growth.

When to Seek Help

If trauma-related symptoms persist for more than a month or significantly impair your ability to function, it may be time to seek professional help. Globally, trauma disorders affect millions, with around 7-8% of people experiencing PTSD at some point in their lives. Early intervention can significantly improve outcomes and promote long-term recovery.

Diagnosis of Trauma Disorders

Diagnosing trauma disorders involves a detailed psychological assessment that evaluates the individual’s symptoms and history. Zita provides professional assessments in her Dubai clinic, using a comprehensive approach to understand each patient’s experience and offer an accurate diagnosis.

Treatments for Options for Trauma Patients

Zita employs various therapeutic techniques to help individuals manage trauma disorders. Psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are central to her approach, focusing on understanding the root causes of trauma and reframing negative thought patterns. In cases requiring more specialized interventions, therapists may also integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), both of which are highly effective in trauma treatment. By tailoring the therapy to the individual, Zita helps patients regain control over their lives and

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Trauma Disorders Treatments

What are some trauma-related disorders?
Trauma- and stressor-related disorders include: post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); acute stress disorder (ASD); adjustment disorders; reactive attachment disorder (RAD); disinhibited social engagement disorder (DSED); and unclassified/unspecified trauma disorders. Complex PTSD (CPTSD) is also widely recognised, arising from repeated or prolonged trauma. Each involves a psychological response to one or more overwhelming events.
The most effective route is evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy – trauma-focused CBT, EMDR, or prolonged exposure. Alongside professional treatment, helpful self-management includes grounding techniques, regular sleep and exercise, limiting alcohol and caffeine, breathing and relaxation practice, staying connected to trusted people, and gradually facing (rather than permanently avoiding) triggers with support. Medication such as SSRIs helps some people. Self-management works best alongside therapy, not instead of it – seek a professional assessment.
Often called the ‘4 F’s’, these are the four most common trauma RESPONSES – not personality types: fight (confronting the threat), flight (escaping or avoiding), freeze (feeling stuck or shutting down), and fawn (appeasing or people-pleasing to stay safe). They are reflexive survival reactions to extreme stress, and most people show a mix. Understanding your dominant pattern is a common early step in trauma therapy.
One of the most common forms is physical abuse – whether between partners, toward a child, or another close person – defined by the CDC as ‘the intentional use of physical force that can result in physical harm.’ Other very common traumas include accidents, the sudden loss of a loved one, and (for many in a diverse city like Dubai) the cumulative stress of migration, separation from family, and major life upheaval.
This usually refers to the ten Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, physical neglect, emotional neglect, witnessing domestic violence, household substance misuse, household mental illness, parental separation or divorce, and having an incarcerated household member. Higher ACE scores raise the risk of later physical and mental-health difficulties – but they are risk factors, not destiny, and effective support changes outcomes.
This returns the same National Child Traumatic Stress Network list as Q2: bullying, community violence, complex trauma, disasters, early childhood trauma, intimate partner violence, medical trauma, and physical abuse. It is essentially a duplicate of the ‘7 types’ question – answer them together on-page as one ‘types of trauma’ section to avoid repetition.

Yes, there is a mental support hotline in the UAE that operates daily from 8 am to 8 pm. You can reach it by calling 800-HOPE (8004673) or by sending a WhatsApp message to 8004673.
